[01 Dec 2008|09:53am]

Hi everyone.

I have to do some observation hours at an elementary school for my grad school application and I'm not from Monroe. I was wondering if anyone could recommend a good school near the ULM campus. I would really appreciate it!

FOUND: black lab mix [20 Nov 2008|09:44am]

[ mood | hopeful ]

I found a female black lab mix dog with a purple collar but no tags on the ULM campus yesterday morning (Wed. 11/19). She's very friendly and was trying to follow people in the staff entrance to the Library.

Since large dogs are not allowed in my apartment complex, my vet's office has graciously taken her in until I can find her owner or a place to take her. I really don't want to take her to the Ouachita Parish Animal Shelter as they are always overburdened, and if they take her it may mean that another dog's time would be up, if you know what I mean. If this is your dog or you know who she belongs to, please reply ASAP.

And for everyone--please please PLEASE tag your pets and don't let them run loose. Free tags are available at the PAWS adoption event at Petco on the last Saturday of every month.

$50 for 10 minutes of work! [21 Jun 2007|11:55pm]

[ mood | hopeful ]

I'm moving to Monroe on Monday and I'm looking for two strong people to help move three pieces of furniture (a couch, a loveseat, and a computer hutch with attached bookshelves) from the rental truck into my townhome. I will pay each person $50. My cousins loaded the stuff into the truck in about 10 minutes--I'm sure it will be just as quick to remove. I'm hoping to find some hungry students to do it because the moving companies all have a 3-4 hour minumum and I just don't need anyone around that long.

If you are interested, please respond here or email me at mwillia9 [at] uiuc [dot] edu. I will be around tomorrow, but traveling on Saturday, Sunday, and Monday morning. I don't know what time I will arrive Monday, so it would be a great help if you could also give me a phone number so I can call when I get there.

So I leaving the third floor of the library last night walking past those halls of study rooms and whatnot when this 40ish year old, disgusting, foul smelling, toothless black man jumps out at me and said in a shaky voice, "Hey, uhhh. I need to talk to you! Come back here!"

Immediately, I was freaked out because he was so obviously high. He reeked off marijuana. His voice was shaky and he was studdering and not looking at my eyes when he spoke. I said, "I can't, I need to go to the ladies room.." So I walked (rather hastily) away towards the elevators, after I hit the button, I turned around and noticed he was still standing there, looking at me.

Then he started waving for me to 'come here' and I looked away. But I could tell he had started walking towards me. I jumped in the elevator and began jabbing the "Close Door" button completely scared.

So when I got to the first floor, I went to the Circulation/Reserve desk and told the student worker, "Okay, this is going to sound crazy, but I think there is a high homeless man on the third floor." I told him everything, and he just looked at me like I was a complete idiot and said, "Yeah, uhm. I'll go check on it."

Naturally, the second I left the library, I called UPD. They took an accurate description and called me back thirty minutes later to get my information for a report. And that was it. (They didn't find him).

So, the moral of the story is, there is a drug-induced psychotic bum lurking in our library. Just so you all know..

So, I saw a lady let her dog relieve itself in the sculpture garden today.  She was carrying it, and actually put it down in front of a sculpture.  What a critic.

so be careful all you music kids.

ARGH! [21 Aug 2006|06:47pm]

Maybe I'm just way out of the loop, but... PJ's?!! UGH!!  I have a habit of walking to some place on campus after a long summer away, and then turning the corner only to find it's either been torn down or moved out.  So, no PJ's?  Must be the incoming Starbucks (barf). I'm boycotting Starbucks.  Seatle hasn't been  ravaged by two hurricanes.  I would rather my money stay in our state.

why couldn't they get rid of Java City instead?

Fall 2006 [30 Jul 2006|04:39pm]

First of all, anyone taking Jordan for Biology 110? Her class is 100% PowerPoint, you write what she presents and 100% of that is on the tests. I brought my laptop to class and typed all my notes. If anyone is taking that class, I'll be happy to email you the notes and you can print them, bring them to class, and highlight/add new info. Let me know.

Secondly, I have a Geology 102 book if someone needs it before I sell it back to the bookstore.

Thirdly, my fall schedule:

Spanish 205 Holloway
Chemistry 101 Buczala
Psychology 201 Hutto
English 482 Stephenson
History 111 Walker

Anyone had any of these professors?

Okay, a question.  Has anyone ever bought a Cliff's quick review book or any other general standardized review for course material.  I'm trying to decide between The Cliff's quick review of organic chemistry, or Organic Chemistry the Easy Way, or some sort of o-chem review and I have no idea which reference would be the most useful.  Some of the ones I looked at in books-a-million looked to be just as thick as a textbook, and therefore not to ideal for just reviewing. I'm taking Biochem and intermediate organic this fall which both could require some brushing up on general organic.  But just brushing up, not relearning everything.

Okay, I've decided to do:

Binge Drinking
College Students

and how they're all related?

How does that sound? Dr. Palmer approved it. I'll start research this weekend!

Help? [11 Jul 2006|02:37pm]

So, I'm taking Psychology 201 with Dr. Palmer for Summer II and he's giving us a bonus opportunity to present an approved topic. It has to be a twenty minute presentation and it's worth 15 points.

Anyway, I need help choosing a topic. I want something that there is plenty of information on and interesting. One girl is doing autism, which I thought was kinda broad.

I want to do some type of psychological disorder that affects teenagers. Any ideas?

Okay, so from the mascot pictures i've seen so far, the mascot is a maroon warhawk, who at times carries around a bolt of lightning, then at other times he dresses as a pilot.  Why a winged, lightning-toting bird needs to fly a plane is beyond me, but whatever.  So I'm wondering what's up with the lightning?  I mean does he go around flinging lightning bolts to the ground like Zeus? Any ideas?

Warhawk Icons [27 Jun 2006|09:57am]

I figured that in the new Warhawk mania, people might want to show their spirit with a Warhawk LJ icon.

Comment and tell me which icon(s) you're taking.

For anyone interested, there are ULM Warhawk desktop images available from ULM here.

And, yes. I'm working on a new warhawk-themed layout for this community.

The ULM Mascot UnveilingCollapse )

[15 Jun 2006|05:31pm]

Just passing this along from the ULM website:

Time confirmed for ULM mascot unveiling on June 26

After the ULM Mascot Committee unanimously voted to approve the final Warhawk logo designs, ULM staff members set an unveiling date of Monday, June 26 in Brown Gym at 4:00 p.m.

Everyone is encouraged to attend the celebration, which will be the first opportunity to purchase Warhawk merchandise.

The mascot committee's decision to approve the logo designs coincided with the majority opinion of the five focus groups (about 80-100 people). The focus groups—four groups of adults and one group of children—met with Eric Rickabaugh, of Rickabaugh Graphics, and voiced their opinions about the different prospective logos.

Seeing "Warhawks" on the new prep t-shirts was kinda wierd for me. The new name will take some getting used to. Has anyone else been on campus this summer? If so, does it seem like there are way more students at prep than normal? I'd love to see a big jump in enrollment for the 2006-2007 year.

Harris Hall is currently being torn down to the ground with others to soon follow, and there are cool/annoying brick walkways being built across northeast drive. Starbucks is also coming to campus. I know some people think of starbucks as the wal-mart of the coffee industry, but they do make a tasty cup of coffee. Lots of things are happening around here so,

Which new addition/change to the ULM campus are you most excited about?

Me, I'm really excited about the new student union. I'm hoping that it'll actually make students want to hangout there, and have at least the same hours as the library. There's no reason that it shouldn't have wireless internet, a few tv's, pool tables, possibly the return of the bowling alley, some sort of place to eat (hopefully the triumphant return of chick filet) and maybe even an arcade. That would be quite awesome. I'm also pretty excited about the ampitheatre.

and, What do you think still needs some work?

Attn girl in the library at 1314 typing your LJ entry:

You really shouldn't rock back and forth while you type, people are going to think you have psychological issues.

(Seriously, this chick is rocking back and forth just like the stereotypical crazy bums in movies huddle under their tarps in the streets...it's creepy)
